Ms. Studious

Leila's energy levels have not changed at all this summer, of course, but she has turned more of her attention to studious endeavors.

It all began with downloading a Dora Handwriting app to the I-Pod. We did it for Gage so he could continue to work on his fine motor skills and letter recognition and such. However, Leila really has commadeered the I-Pod and has mastered it more than any of us. She loves the games and she moves between the handwriting game and a strategy game the most. It really fascinated us because we really have only seen the ornery side of Leila rather than the serious side. It looks as though she has taken it all in all along and stored it until she has felt the need to share it. (and, our prediction will be she will be the bored student in school who causes some innocent mischief)

At the concession stand the other night, Leila wrote her name. I had to give her verbal directions, but we did not show her the steps. I nearly fell off the picnic table--she's only 2! I know this 'is a girl thing' and our first born is a boy, but I was simply dripping with pride for her.

Other things have occurred with these skills, too. Like her brother, chopsticks are the way to eat all meals. Unlike her brother, dry-erase workbooks and activities are as awesome as water skiing. And, like her brother, her time spent with books has increased exponentially throughout the summer. (Mother Goose, Other Goose and Big Blue are at the top of her favorite book's list)
