We've been part of a farm council group for nearly a year now and it is nice to have such a wonderful extended 'family'. Including Gage and Leila, there are four other kids in the 2-5 age range, led by a couple of pre-teen ladies, and all these kids just know how to GO! We take turns hosting each month and while I don't always have a lot of sit down adult time, it is a wonderful mix of excitement and refereeing.
It reminds me of times when I was young and the whole family gathered at my Grandma Spencer's house. There are a dozen first cousins that spanned six years, a large farm, and parents who said "Go Play!" Those were the inventive times of testing boundaries and being explorers. This past weekend, I really saw our kids learning to go off and be confident about just playing. Who really knows what their 'games' were, but piles of rocks, glow sticks, and lots of romping room among neat things kept them entertained until 11 p.m. The box of band-aids was used a few different times, fetching a glow stick that landed on the other side of a barbed-wire fence (amazing), and touring the combine were highlights of the eve.
Slowly, yet surely, Jefferson County is feeling more like home for me.
